About Craig
Perched on a hillside above the Whanganui River with mountain views of Ruapehu is the studio of jeweller Craig Winton.
With nature’s inspiration at the window, it’s here he designs and creates his distinctive and sought-after jewellery.
Pacifica
Craig’s current collection of necklaces, rings, earrings and brooches incorporates materials from the Pacific: you’ll find stunning juxtapositions of mother-of-pearl with set gemstones and black pearls, as well as hand-cut pounamu and other New Zealand gemstones.
Craig Winton’s work is exhibited in galleries throughout New Zealand, and has been purchased by private buyers in Aotearoa and abroad. He also accepts commissions.
A passion for design
Craig has been designing and creating exclusive jewellery for more than a decade. He was taught his skills by classically trained jewellers in Edinburgh, learning to work with precious metals like silver and gold. His latest passion is cutting and cabochoning his own gemstones such as carnelian, nephrite jade (pounamu), argillite (pakahoe), obsidian (natural volcanic glass) and opals.
A Wellington-born artist, Craig has embraced life in Wanganui after arriving in the riverside city nearly four years ago with partner Amanda and their two young daughters, Ella and Ruby.
As well as pursuing his own profession in jewellery design, he now shares his knowledge by teaching others. He has been giving lessons for the last three years at Wanganui Community Education Service (CES) night classes, and tutored UCOL’s summer school this past January.
